Search Warrant Preparation

Probable Cause is the basis for all we do in law enforcement, but how many times do we really feel confident that our probable cause will stand up to the most rigorous legal scrutiny and protect us and our fellow officers from lawsuits?

This is a hands on course that reviews the legal aspects of probable cause and then concentrates on the techniques of affidavit drafting.

Participants will be furnished an extensive manual and will draft affidavits in class covering a variety of situations in order to be confident in their warrant preparation ability. If you draft affidavits now or intend to in the future, or if you just want to be sure that you can find probable cause in a given fact situation, you need to participate in this "hands on" seminar.

Supervisory Communication and Motivation

Some of the most important and most difficult tasks for law enforcement supervisors to successfully maneuver include the constant interaction with administrators, peers, lower ranking officers, communications personnel, administrative personnel, court personnel, media, law abiding citizens, and criminals.

Law enforcement supervisors must develop the skills necessary to communicate clearly and successfully with numerous individuals; each with a different personality, background, level of understanding, and language barriers. When dealing with lower ranking officers, it is not only imperative that clear and complete communications take place, but the supervisor must also serve as a mentor to motivate for excellence in a profession filled with discouraging situations, stressful and emotional events, that require split-second decision making.

This course will present the concepts and scientific principles related to communication and motivation on a supervisory level. Each participant will bring their personal experience to the table in discussion on topics related to communicating with different individuals and motivating law enforcement officers who fall into numerous generations and cultural backgrounds.

Six hours of training will be filled with information, discussion, practical exercises, and examples of actual situations in which law enforcement supervisors will deal with in their careers. This course is valuable for veteran and new supervisors, as well as officers who plan to seek promotion into supervisory positions.

Ethics and Accountability in     Law Enforcement

Throughout their careers, law enforcement personnel are given training that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the various tasks of their work. This 6 hour course will provide them with the necessary tools to assist them with identifying ethical dilemmas and solutions. Among the many issues that will be discussed are:

“Ethics” defined.
“Higher Standard” of behavior for police.
“6 Pillars of Character”.
“5 Principles of Ethical Policing”.

Constitutional and   Alabama Law Update
Civil/ Criminal Liability

The law is constantly changing and officers are legally responsible for understanding and applying these changes.  Unfortunately, most departments are not adequately equipped to provide their officers with legal updates in a manner that can be immediately applied on the job.  Not knowing the latest law can adversely impact cases and can subject officers to civil and even criminal penalties. Every officer needs a legal refresher course once each year.

If you have not received training in this area recently, you need to attend this course.

Topics covered will include new major federal and   cases involving search and seizure, confessions, right to counsel, eyewitness identification and civil/criminal liability.

Officer Safety

This training examines information on how & why officers are attacked and/or killed. Information is based on 3 FBI studies, reflected in the publications, "Killed in the Line of Duty" (1992), "In the Line of Fire" (1997), and "Violent Encounters" (2006). Case studies of actual assaults give insight to this sensitive topic.

This course is for law enforcement trainers, supervisors, managers, and officers. Developed from the excellent materials and information presented by the FBI trainer David Bossard. He freely gives permission and encourages local adaptation of this compelling material.

Identity Theft and White Collar Crime

This White Collar Crime course covers all of the usual methods of taking and assuming a person's identity, the laws involved, preventive measures and the investigative steps to identify and apprehend those who participate in these crimes.

Because this one of the more rapidly growing crime areas, DAs often are not experienced in prosecuting these cases, so all departments should have a working knowledge of the crimes, the criminals involved and the investigation of these schemes.

As criminals become more sophisticated, those officers who are or will be assigned to these investigations must constantly upgrade their skills. From simple check cases to identity theft, the schemes are becoming more complex with each new change in technology.

This course also includes a basic overview of the typical white collar crime schemes investigators currently face and the steps necessary to solve these crimes.

All officers who are currently involved in the investigation of white collar crime or who intend to do so in the future should attend this course
